Rev. C. Douglas Akers was born in Radford, Virginia. He grew up in Pulaski and Roanoke, where he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1974. He received a B.A. in Religion and philosophy from Methodist College (Fayetteville, N.C.) inn 1978. He received an M. Div. from Wesley Theological Seminary (Washington D.C.) in 1981 and has served churches in the Virginia Conference for 27 years.
He and his wife, Linda Toler Marsh, have been married 20 years. They have one child, Drew, who is an 11th grader at Grafton High School in Yorktown. Linda was formerly employed with Interim Home Healthcare of Staunton, where she served as their director of Marketing and sales.
